Governor Walker Visits Sevastopol School

On Tuesday, May 30, Governor Scott Walker visited Sevastopol School.  He had been invited several months ago by the elementary Destination Imagination Team that had opened the school store “Caring is Sharing”.  Upon his arrival he was welcomed by the Sevastopol Band, FFA Members, and Megan Kasten lead him to the multi-purpose room.  Joining him in the multi-purpose room were all of the DI Teams and Coaches that competed this year.  After a few words from School Board President Lisa Bieri, Governor Walker presented a certificate of achievement to the DI elementary team and their coach, Sarah Olson.  He also gave a little talk about his upcoming education budget for the television cameras in attendance.

After a few words about the Destination Imagination program from DI Coordinator David Phillips, all of the teams and coaches were recognized.  Governor Walker then watched the two teams that recently competed at Global Finals perform their skits.  Once the performances were complete, he seemed content to pose for pictures and generally engage in small talk with students and parents that were in attendance.  He was very personable with everyone he came in contact with.

After the DI portion of the visit, he was lead up to the 2nd grade classroom of Katie Grooters where he watched a puppet show performed by the students.  Upon returning to the multi-purpose room, he joined several students that participate in the Peer Mentor Program and our valedictorians to discuss their future plans and find out how the Peer Mentor Program works here at Sevastopol.

All in all, it was a great visit with our Governor and an experience our students will not forget.   Thank You Governor Walker for taking time to visit our great school!
